The VFL (founded in 1993 and now in its second season of play) is a draft-type league that emphasizes maximum realism in the football simulation-- realistic plays, tactics, players, and procedures. The VFL uses a very specialized (and somewhat strict) set of rules to ensure that the onscreen play maintains the "look and feel" of real pro football.
Pro players are translated into PMFB ratings based upon actual performance. Teams in the league are named after real pro teams, but the rosters are built from the ground up through drafting and trading to meet the style of each Head Coach/GM. Though no formal limits are currently set, most teams fall into the 9500-10500 point range, with the lowest rated players being 265-point "scrubs" (approximately ten per team).
Games are played bi-weekly, with the number of games in the season based upon the total number of coaches/franchises in the league (and desires of the coaches).
